Hello All,

This must have been one of the one of the busiest weekends in Awassa ever!  Aside from the AYC Basketball Tournament, there was also the "Great Ethiopian Run", a road-race sponsored by Ethiopian legend Haile-Gabriel Selassie, and a music concert for youth on Sunday evening!   Even with the other events the AYC 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament turned out to be a huge success and left most asking "when is the next one?!"  We hope to post some more photos of the tournament tommorow, until then here is a quick wrap up of the event...



Also, here is this weeks "Monday Artwork".  This powerful image was received for the 2006 AYC Art Exhibition.  The artist is 17-year Old Kalkidhan Beru, who happens to also live at the Awassa Children's Center.   This piece is particularly moving because it is often assumed children and youth are mainly the victims of HIV/AIDS, this clearly demonstrates that they are well aware of the impacts of the pandemic.  We must begin to recognize this and support their efforts aimed at stopping the spread of HIV/AIDS.  Without proper support this image will continue to become a reality...
