pEoPlE:

First, we at AYC would like to wish Eid Mubarak for everyone!  Today, we got to get a little fall cleaning done here at AYC.  We have had to renovate a bit in order to meet the growing demand this academic year.  In this process we came across lots of artwork.   Since AYC opened nearly two years ago, we have provided paper, pens, paint, crayons, etc. for thousands of childeren and youth.  In addition to free art everyday and a youth-run studio, we also do classes and workshops.  Usually these are facilitated by volunteers or AYC staff.  The following works are from a workshop conducted with some kids who, well let's just say they didn't really get a fair deal when it comes to life.  Despite the darkness of their work, beauty is very much evident.   This is why art is so important,  ESPECiALLY for children and youth in ETHIOPiA, for it is a window, as well as a door, to the individual, to society.  Keep that in mind when viewing.  Stay well.

Beautiful paintings. Please share with the kids who created them our thanks for making such powerful images. Please AYC keep the visual arts alive, and, have you thought of creating a gallery on-line so we in other lands can see the work?

      Thanks again.
